Solid PR Presents: A Benefit for the Victims of the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster

Who: Zs / Child Abuse / Controlled Bleeding / Cellular Chaos / DJ 1000TimesYes
What: A benefit to help the victims of the Gulf oil spill disaster
Where: Shea Stadium (20 Meadow St) Brooklyn, NY
When: Wednesday, June 2nd, 8pm
Admission: $8

Over the past few weeks, Solid PR has been saddened to hear of the devastation brought on by the recent oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and have tried to think of ways we could help those affected and shine a brighter light on the situation as a whole.

It's been reported that to date more that 30 million gallons of oil have spilled into the Gulf affecting an area of more than 4,900 square miles, and leaking at a rate speculated at being hundreds of thousands, to millions of barrels of oil per day. It's also reported that there is a likelihood of the oil making its way into the "loop current" taking the spill from the Gulf, around the Florida Keys and Miami, and up the East Coast. Just today, yet another major news source reported the size of the slick to be that of a small country, currently threatening Louisiana's fishing and coastal tourism industries, in addition to destroying its various nature reserves, and possibly affecting the state's fragile marshes for decades.

We at Solid PR care about the delicate ecosystem of our planet and have decided to put together a last minute event to help raise awareness and help those affected by the Gulf oil spill disaster. All proceeds from this event will go to The Greater New Orleans Foundation put in place to offer assistance to those in need of help. If you're interested in learning more, please visit www.gnof.org. More information on The Greater New Orleans Foundation below.

* This event is being presented in conjunction with our friends at Arthur Magazine.
Please feel free to spread the word and we look forward to seeing you.

About the bands:

Zs
Brooklyn's veteran avant-garde band Zs have been causing quite a stir and raising a ton of eyebrows as of late with its brand of jazz-fusion, prog, industrial, punk, no wave, and drone stylings, most recently catching the attention of The NY Times who said of the band's new album, "These pieces are all brain-benders; they’re conceptual art objects that set form and content against each other - like, say, a perfect birthday cake made out of sawdust, or a perfect hammer made out of bird feathers." - Zs latest album, "New Slaves," is out now on The Social Registry.

Child Abuse
New York's Child Abuse have just released their latest album, "Cut and Run," on Lovepump United (currently home to the likes of Health and Clipd Beaks, and run in part by Genghis Tron frontman Mookie Singerman) to wild accolades. The band plays a completely twisted and manic form of industrial-strength grindcore and put on one of the most brutally unreal live shows around. Child Abuse is a definite must see each and every time they take the stage.

Controlled Bleeding
Dating back to 1987, New York's Controlled Bleeding are probably best known as being one of the earliest pioneers in the industrial and noise scenes, which included their appearance on the legendary Wax Trax "Black Box" box set alongside bands like Coil, Ministry, Clock DVA and others; although, as stated on the band's Wikipedia page, "Controlled Bleeding's sound is confusingly varied from album to album and has contained elements of dub, free jazz, noise, prog, sacred music, dark ambient, classical and musique concrète. To their own detriment, the group has never cared much about generating or maintaining an audience, but just sort of does whatever inspires them in the moment." We have a feeling we're all going to be treated to something extra special as the band is recently back together and performing as a duo for the first time.

Weasel Walter's Cellular Chaos
Very little is known about the latest project from experimental hero Weasel Walter, dubbed Cellular Chaos, but if Mr. Walter is involved you can pretty much guarantee mind-blowing great times are in your future. The band has already performed alongside the likes of Liturgy and White Mice, and we hear the material shreds, so needless to say we're very excited.

Racebannon Announce "Wrap The Body" 12-inch feat Jilly Weiss, Yea Big and More!

Stream "Wrap The Body" here!

Never a force content to deliver obvious moves, the next release from the Racebannon juggernaut sees them joining forces with some friends and releasing...*gasp* a DJ-styled 12" release. Yes folks, Wrap the Body!

A collaboration between Racebannon and Jilly Weiss (We Are Hex), and also featuring a full-blown remix from long time friends Yea Big, Kid Static and Stak; this is Racebannon at both their weirdest and yet most recognizable. Yes, the requisite churn, chaos, and darkness are all present and yes, Mike Anderson belts out yet another genre-bending throat-box assault. The razor riffing is omnipresent, and the low-end hits like a depth charge. But the token Bannon weapons collide face-first with programmed beats, samples, and an instantly frenzied vocal contribution from Weiss, who sounds like a banshee possessed by equal parts PJ Harvey, bad acid, and Satan herself. The end result is something that is immediately memorable, catchy, scary, and downright original.

In short you are left with another boot-print across the grill that reads "Racebannon."

Consistent with the format, the 12" showcases the studio cut (recorded by Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording), as well as instrumental and acapella versions on Side A, allowing for a multitude of utilities, listening experiences, and applications. Changing pace dramatically, the flip offers a mega-remix from Yea Big, who gives Wrap the Body a glitchy, organ-driven rework that keeps the essence of the original intact while leaving an indelible blueprint of his trademark sound. Long-time collaborator Kid Static also contributes verses to the remix, as does Bloomington rapper Stak, making this a remix in the truest sense. Both rappers offer performances rooted equally in both the cerebral and the visceral spheres, and help to take the track to an entirely different ether than the original. As with Side A, instrumental and acapella versions are also on offer for the brave/DJ-minded listener.

Limited to a one-time pressing of 500 copies, this is an essential purchase for the Racebannon fanatic, as well as all DJ's and vinyl fetishists. Joyful Noise, Racebannon, and some talented contributors bring you one of the more challenging and enjoyable beat-looped, occult-driven, heavy dance disco sludge metal 12"'s you are likely to hear. Come to think of it, it will probably be the only one you ever hear. Only the brave have the mettle... (D.Britts)

* Racebannon will release their new full length, Six Sik Sisters, this August on Tizona Records.

Wrap The Body Tracklist
1. Wrap the Body (Feat. Jilly Weiss)
2. Wrap the Body (Instrumental)
3. Wrap the Body (Acapella)
4. Wrap the Body (Yea Big Megamix Feat. Kid Static & Stak)
5. Wrap the Body (Yea Big Megamix Instrumental)
6. Wrap the Body (Yea Big Megamix Acapella)

Greg Attonito (Bouncing Souls), Kevin Seconds and More Annnounce Vroom Vroom Vespa Tour!

What happens when you take two well-known musicians, strap a guitar on their backs, and let them ride around the country solely on Vespa scooters? Welcome to the Vroom Vroom Vespa Acoustic Tour featuring Greg Attonito (lead singer of legendary punk act, The Bouncing Souls) and his wife/singer-songwriter/actress, Shanti Wintergate.

Greg has been in famed-punk band, The Bouncing Souls, since it’s inception in 1989, and has toured the world time and again gaining fans and leading the DIY (Do It Yourself) ethos. Playing with and inspiring such bands as: Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, and being such staples of tours such as The Vans Warped Tour, Reading, Leeds, among others. Shanti, on the other hand, has had success in more of a commercial sense with musical appearances on Charmed, Joan of Arcadia, Laguna Beach, and CSI NY. Together they have created a few projects such as the book, “I Went for a Walk” which is being developed into a new PBS kids show. This lead them on two tours where they visited elementary schools, book stores, and libraries, with the intent to inspire kids with their music and their experiences.

Starting on June 3rd in Philadelphia, PA through June 11th in Cambridge, MA, the musicians will embark on a journey combining the love of music, nature, riding, and self-expression. Although the tour has just released its first set of dates, both Albertson Music Group, LLC and the contributors to the tour will route the journey throughout the United States, split up in different regions of the country, and promote the art of freedom through music. Greg and Shanti, along with opening acts such as Kevin Seconds and Kepi Ghoulie (among others), will give back to the community of each region by having speaking engagements at local schools, as well as perform at local venues each night. While riding on their Vespa scooters to each location, they are inviting local scooter clubs and arranging group rides for anyone who wants to join them! The “Vroom Vroom Vespa Tour” will involve the community by updating rendezvous points, and staying local with the locals!

However, there’s more! During their journey on the trusty Vespa scooters, daily video blogs will be filmed and put together to capture the experience of touring without a bus, as well as achieve the goals of an eco-friendly, yet music loving experience. The adventure will truly bring a personal experience and interaction with the Vespa brand. People will laugh, cry, feel the wind in their hair, and experience the freedom that Vespa and music brings.

Harvey Milk Stream New Album at NPR Music

First Listen: Harvey Milk, 'A Small Turn Of Human Kindness'

Harvey Milk is a band that does not take itself seriously. Formed in a college town that had little interest in sludgy noise-rock — and named, of course, for the San Francisco gay-rights leader — the Athens, Ga., group spent the '90s laying down gnarled railwork, picking up obsessed drifters along the way. But the members of Harvey Milk never cared in any case (no, seriously); if a sledgehammer or an out-of-tune piano got the job done, then you either saddled up like a smart guy or buzzed off. The band's seventh album, A Small Turn of Human Kindness, plays like one long metallic dirge, which chronicles a broken man, his broken relationship and the doubt of grace.

The NY Times Reviews Zs' "New Slaves" Out This Week on The Social Registry

ZS
“New Slaves”
(The Social Registry)

The New York instrumental band Zs makes an incredible racket, but a precise one. The group handles clangorous or fast or highly repetitive material with precision; on “New Slaves,” what can sound like free improvisation or jamming is actually music composed so tightly it makes your teeth hurt a little.

CAMP WANATACHI Returns To New York This June!

Refreshing and uplifting. - Time Out New York

A hilariously subversive piece of theater. - New York Magazine

This hormone-charged motley crew will make you laugh and ponder conceptions about religion and sexual identity in a postmodern age. - Paper Magazine

Very catchy... It’s a sound we haven’t heard that much from new musicals, I for one would love more. - New York Post

(New York City, New York) CAMP WANATACHI is a spirit-soaked hormone-charged new musical comedy about two 13 year old girls who fall in love at Christian summer camp. Produced by the star of Disney - ABC's Legend of the Seeker, Bridget Regan, and Ian Pai, co-founder of Blue Man Group and Musical Director of Fischerspooner, this genre-mashing musical tells the story of two young girls, the sexy bulimic Titi, and Jana, earnest and religious. Surrounded by an ensemble of eccentric characters, including a suicidal goth, a manic cheerleader, and a foxy counselor from the boys side, Titi and Jana learn that they can experience Jesus’ love through one another.

Fresh off its critically acclaimed run in the 2009 NY Fringe Festival, CAMP WANATACHI’s upcoming Benefit Concerts + Dance Party will star its creator, Natalie Weiss (of Unicornicopia), and feature a book co-written by Bekah Brunstetter (two-time winner of the New York Innovative Theater Award for best new play), the sex-glitch beats of Machinedrum, a live orchestra, floor-to-ceiling projection walls and a summer camp themed after party.

On June 3rd and 4th, a concert version of CAMP WANATACHI will be performed to raise awareness and funds for its sister project, a gallery show entitled Jesus In Our Lives. Spearheaded by the experimental arts and advocacy group Mercurial Productions, Jesus In Our Lives utilizes photographic, video, performance and interactive components that give a voice to young lesbians and promote frank discussion about the intersection of homosexuality and Christianity at Ramiken Crucible Gallery in 2010. In addition to the concerts, there will be a VIP reception and a party hosted by NYC’s most popular electro/sex/dance crunkers, CASSETTE NYC.

CAMP WANATACHI Benefit Concerts + Dance Party at Three Legged Dog:
80 Greenwich Street New York, NY 10006
Thursday, June 3rd 8:00pm (followed by VIP Reception)
Friday, June 4th 8:00pm (followed by CASSETTE NYC After Party.)

For advance, pre-sale tickets, email info@campwanatachi.com

Tickets for Benefit Concerts: $15
Tickets purchased for June 3rd and June 4th both include admission to CASSETTE NYC on June 4th.

The Austerity Program Release and Stream "Backsliders and Apostates Will Burn" Out Today on Hydra Head!

This is just unbelievably innovative and catchy music. Songs stick to your ribs and repeat in your head until you snag another chance to hear them... This record, taken as four songs written by who gives a shit and recorded in nowhere USA, allows everyone who yaps about the lack of truly original music to take a couple listens and then shut the fuck up. 10 / 10 - Decibel Magazine

Outstanding. 5 / 5 - MetalSucks

Constants Announce New Justin Broadrick Produced Album, Premiere Two New Songs

Constants’ fusion of disparate styles is one of the most organic yet. Instead of soft-loud-soft-because-Isis-do-it, Constants work through melodies, textures and rhythms with remarkable fluency. They love delay pedals (hello, U2!). They dig proggy odd meters. They would fit equally well on Equal Vision or InsideOut. If they want to catapult out of this lowly rag into Rolling Stone, they could do it. - Decibel Magazine

Boston's shoegaze-post-rock turned accessible indie-metal pioneers CONSTANTS have just announced the title to their forthcoming new album, "If Tomorrow The War," due out later this year on The Mylene Sheath. The band's new album was produced by Jesu / Godflesh mastermind Justin K. Broadrick and is the follow-up to their 2009 critically acclaimed full-length "The Foundation The Machine The Ascension."

Constants have also premiered two new songs from their forthcoming release, "Your Daughter's Eyes," and "The Sun, The Earth," that can be heard streaming on their website, ConstantSound.com. In addition, the band has covered Type O Negative's "Love You to Death," currently streaming on their Myspace page. Says Constants' guitarist and vocalist Will Benoit, "This recording is a nod of respect to Peter Steele, who in my opinion was one of the best and most under appreciated songwriters in rock history. His sense of irony was unmatched, and I've always been surprised at how few people understand that. He's one of those people that started influencing me so early on in my life that I just always assumed he'd always be there putting out records for me to enjoy..."

* More news from the band's new album, including track list, cover art, and release date coming soon!
