RCRD LBL Streams New Trash Talk Song "East of Eden!"

huge thanks to Samuel P Duke and the entire RCRD LBL staff for their support!

DOWNLOAD: Trash Talk - Dig + East Of Eden (Stream)

Arguably one of the most thrilling and talked-about hardcore bands out there, San Francisco's Trash Talk are bare bones, no bullshit brutal. Their thrown-in-the-gutter, D-beat sound owes as much to Entombed as it does to early Black Flag, and they seal the deal with what is apparently the most insane and chaotic live show around (see above and here). Following a number of appearances at SXSW, the band are releasing a new single called "East Of Eden" through their own Trash Talk Collective imprint, featuring none other than Circle Jerks singer and white dude dreads proponent Keith Morris. Stream the track below, grab "Dig" from their self-titled '08 album for free, and do whatever you can to go see them on tour right now with The Bronx. Dates up at their MySpace.

AOL Noisecreep Talks to Torche's Jonathan Nuñez!

huge thanks to the Noisecreep staff for their support!

Torche Are Feeling No Pressure
By: Matt Debenedictis

Jonathan Nuñez the bassist of Torche paused for a moment and let an, "uuuhh" preceded his actual words. "No," he told Noiscreep, "we're writing the same way we always have written." The question was whether the writing process has changed for Torche over the years, especially since the success of last years 'Meanderthal.'

NPR Talks Debut Clues Release for Constellation!

huge thanks to the NPR Music staff for their amazing support!

Second Stage »
Clues: 'Remember Severed Head'

By Rachel Kowal

When Montreal's The Unicorns broke up in 2004, indie rock kids mourned the death of a band known for its zany hooks and quirky lyrics. Of course, all was not lost, thanks to the emergence of Islands, which also featured Nick Thorburn and Jamie Thompson. But something was still missing. Enter Clues: the musical project founded by fellow ex-Unicorn, Alden Penner, and Arcade Fire's Brendan Reed. Haven't heard of them? Well that's not surprising. Clues' self-titled debut album doesn't drop until May, and the band made a conscious decision not to join any social networks — including Myspace. Instead, the group takes more of a grassroots approach by slowly building up its reputation largely through house shows in the Montreal area.

JOURNEY INTO DELIRIUM Land of Kush

Sam Shalabi & Co. set their controls for the heart of the Nile.

BY JOHN SCHACHT

When West meets East (or Middle Eastern), too often the musical results read like timid travelogues of people too frightened to get off the tour bus. But in the right hands -- say, unflinching ones -- the culture clash of scales, instrumentation, cultural aesthetics, etc., can blend into a mix that feeds off the volatility of most East-West meetings. Only here, nobody gets kicked off their ancestral land, blown up, or beheaded.

El Grupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez!

* CLICK TO WATCH CRYPTOMNESIA *

Cryptomnesia is the first release in a series of three albums recorded in 2006 by EL GRUPO NUEVO DE OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ. Despite the name of the group, Rodriguez Lopez is quick to point out that THE MARS VOLTA remains far and away his top priority. EL GRUPO NUEVO... is differentiated from the guitarist's other namesake projects by his selection of players, specifically Zach Hill (HELLA) on drums, Jonathan Hischke (HELLA) on synth bass, and Juan Alderete de la Peña (THE MARS VOLTA) on bass guitar. Additionally, Cryptomnesia features the vocals of guest frontman Cedric Bixler Zavala on eight of the album's eleven tracks.

Rodriguez Lopez completed the album in 2006, shortly after finishing THE MARS VOLTA's Amputechture. Cryptomnesia's tracks are a decidedly heavier affair than that album, a conscious decision on his part to switch gears from writing horn arrangements and complex instrumentation for an octet; it is, therefore, comparatively stripped-down and aggressive, with Hill's presence injecting a dose of chaos and inertia that are a keystone of the EL GRUPO NUEVO... sound. Bixler Zavala's vocals, tracked in 2008 after two years of his dwelling on the enormity of the recording, are certain to send even the most casual of listeners running for their lyric sheet. The ever-prolific Rodriguez Lopez continues to set the bar higher and higher for himself. EL GRUPO NUEVO DE OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ has been the stuff of rumors for three years; Cryptomnesia proves more than worth the wait.

* A special limited advance vinyl offering of only 3,000 copies will be made available exclusively to Indie Retail in honor of RECORD STORE DAY on April 18th. The album will see it’s official release on May 5, 2009.

BrooklynVegan Interviews Torche's Steve Brooks!

huge thanks to Black Bubblegum and the entire BrooklynVegan staff!

An interview w/ Steve Brooks of Torche

Torche emerged from the ashes of Floor, one of a number of notable bands that form the basis of the southern crew (Cavity, Shitstorm).

Robotic Empire did the honors of their first LP, as well as the critically acclaimed follow-up, the In Return EP which hinted at the "thunder-pop" direction to come.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society Announces US Tourdates!

Announce Spring US Tourdates!

World/Inferno Friendship Society's countless members convene around Jack Terricloth, whose grinning, genial stage persona only amplifies what appears to be a sinister intent. It should be a mess, but it coalesces instead into a combination of Bruce Springsteen, The Pogues and the noise the devil makes as cities burn. - NPR

World/Inferno Friendship Society exists almost completely outside the mainstream but has a following that many bands would envy. - The NY Times

New York's own soul-punk orchestra, The WORLD/INFERNO Friendship Society, has just announced a series of Spring tourdates to perform their red-eyed showtunes to the swarming punk-rock masses.

Fresh off a stunning, sold-out performance of the band's theater-inspired Addicted To Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre's 20th Century at New York's Webster Hall, the band is ready to add the fuel to the fire and feed their starving fans around the country (and Canada!).

At eight pieces – wailing drums, three horns, two guitars, way too many teeth, a piano, and a singer soaked with wit, charisma, and humor – their songs so sweet and quicksilver beat promise to put you smack in the middle of the vaudeville circus you’ve always wished your life could be. Celebrating the addition of new drummer, Brian Viglione of Boston cabaret-punk heroes The Dresden Dolls, the band’s tight musicianship and penchant for brewing up high-energy dance numbers are rooted in punk, but manifest themselves with flashes of Count Basie, Wilson Pickett, The Pogues, and Little Richard all out on a night-long bender.

THE WORLD/INFERNO is coming to your town! Full-time fighting friends to the friendless, the most successful scourge to the oppressors since Willie Sutton, they're riding a wave of sumptuous red wine straight into your hearts. Even if they have to buy the drinks themselves, they'll do it. Come see the circus play the dirty rock club, one night only! Come and waltz with the one you love.

We think this extravaganza is one that should not be missed (and yes, from our experience everything about World/Inferno Friendship Society is an extravaganza, that’s not just fancy editorial). - TheTripwire.com
