Blue Man Group Creator Announces Camp Wanatachi!

13 YEAR-OLD CHRISTIAN LESBIAN IS CUTEST THING EVER!

CAMP WANATACHI is a spirit-soaked, hormone-charged new musical comedy about two 13-year-old girls who fall in love at Christian summer camp.

(New York City, New York) Produced by the star of Disney - ABC's Legend of the Seeker, Bridget Regan, and Ian Pai, co-founder of The Blue Man Group and drummer of Fischerspooner, this genre-mashing new musical tackles faith and sexual identity with thick beats and weird humor. Written and composed by performance artist Natalie Weiss (of Unicornicopia), CAMP WANATACHI is an official selection of Playbill when it opens at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC.

Largely autobiographical, CAMP WANATACHI is the story of two young girls, a bulimic slut, Titi, (played by nightlife impresario Biet Simkin), and Jana: angsty, earnest and religious. Their relationship develops surrounded by an ensemble of eccentric characters, including a recently converted pot-head (played by Natalie Weiss), a hick swimming instructor (played by Calvin Kline taste maker Lauren Bahr), a homesick goth, a catty gymnast and a pair of queer hobo-punks who haunt the woods surrounding the camp.

With beats by glitch-hero Machinedrum, video effects by Chad von Nau (Animal Collective's My Girls video), and a lush live orchestra, CAMP WANATACHI features songs like the mind-blowing electro-spiritual "We All Need Jesus in Our Lives," and the mysterious, epic and exultant "Let's Ride Bareback." Visually hip and stylized, this nostalgic musical is super futuristic.

Praise for other productions helmed by Ian Pai:

“One of the most delightful performance pieces ever staged in NYC Theatre.”- NEW YORK TIMES

“Blue Man Group is perfect entertainment... so much fun it has to be experienced to be believed.” - CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Praise for Machinedrum:
“Street-smart, book-smart, beat-smart genius. [9 out of 10].”- PITCHFORK

Rolling Stone "Breaking" - Maylene and The Sons Of Disaster!

Breaking: Maylene and the Sons of Disaster

Who: Birmingham, Alabama’s Maylene and the Sons of Disaster come by their thunderous, southern-fried hard rock honestly. Frontman Dallas Taylor honed his roar with Christian metalcore outfit Underoath before splitting with that band in 2003. Noting he was “ready for a change,” the singer left his hometown of Ocala, Florida, and headed to Birmingham, where a chance hang at his roommate’s band practice planted the seeds for MATSOD. “I didn’t think I’d pay music for a long time. I just wanted to have fun for the evening,” Taylor says. But the one-night stand became a committed relationship, one born in classic rock, tempered in metalcore and screamo and boasting a deeply spiritual core. Taylor weaves tales of redemption, justice and final judgment into the band’s lyrics, but with a light touch. “We have our beliefs, but we’re not out here to ram them down people’s throat,” Taylor says.

The Village Voice Talks Torche + Harvey Milk in New York!

Torche+Harvey Milk+Pollution
By CHRISTOPHER WEINGARTEN
Tuesday, July 21st 2009 at 3:43am

Torche and Harvey Milk are the twin totems of sludge-pop, two bands who’ve ushered Melvins-style bludgeon into exciting new arenas of woofer wreckage. Torche use doom-metal textures to make Beach Boys harmonic pop—a joyous, major-key, heavens-gazing bombast that takes on a religious quality when blasted out into a writhing sea of the faithful. Harvey Milk have been at it since the early '90s, a metal band as quick to jettison into Polvo-style angularity as they are into bummed out Leonard Cohen covers. With Pollution.

TinyMixTapes Talks to Jesu's Justin Broadrick

Jesu
"I’m quite accustomed to alienating my ‘fans.’"

I was introduced to Jesu when they released Conqueror in 2007, and I was immediately sucked into the hazy, heavy-but-spacious ambience. The simple melodicism of Justin Broadrick’s vocals set atop gorgeously brutal stoner-metal is surprisingly accessible. Jesu knows how to properly craft an elegant pop hook and launch it into the great beyond with sheer metal destruction and patient, patient songwriting. The actual guitar parts are not overly complicated, and they allow plenty of room for Broadrick’s soft and inviting voice, but the aesthetic and execution are crushing. I can think of several bands that attempt to mesh pop simplicity with the sonics of metal, but very few actually succeed at capturing the essence of both, and none so well as Jesu.

AOL Noisecreep Talks to Clutch About Releasing Their Own Album!

Clutch Are Done With Labels They Don't Run

Clutch are just like whisky. They get better with age and they both have their roots firm in blues, rock, funk and metal. Today sees the release of 'Strange Cousins From the West,' the bands ninth studio release, and as is expected Clutch brings their big, riffy slap and this time they left the keyboards from 'From Beale Street to Oblivion' behind so the sound is open for the guitars to scream and the groove to dominate.

BrooklynVegan Previews Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground in New York!

Kay Kay & His Weathered Underground, We are Wiley & more in This Week in Indie (part 1)

Philadelphia's Mewithoutyou and Atlanta's The Dear Hunter (not Deerhunter) and on tour together and are playing tonight (7/9) at Music Hall of Williamsburg and tomorrow (7/10) at Bowery Ballroom. But I'm not hear to talk about them. Opening for both shows are Seattle's Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground who are one of the city's best bands though maybe you've never heard of them as they don't play outside of their hometown too often. A musical collective that expands and contracts anywhere from 10 to 15 depending on the show, Kay Kay are led by Kirk Huffman and Kyle O'Quin who have other many bands on thier own. (Huffman in particular stays very busy.) Their self-titled debut is clearly in love with the lush, baroque pop of the late '60s and early '70s: think The Zombies (or Colin Blunstone's first solo album), The Left Banke, and Harry Nilsson. If you wanted more recent comparisons, Jellyfish, Jason Falkner or The Format. It holds up to those comparisons pretty well too, as you can hear on their highly-recommend self-titled debut, which was released on vinyl and digitally last year and came out on CD in May of this year. It's too bad they aren't doing a headling date of their own somewhere, but who knows when they'll make it back this way?

Clutch Featured in New Decibel Magazine!

Clutch just fucking do it themselves with STRANGE COUSINS FROM THE WEST

Clutch singer Neil Fallon wields the kind of authority that your underappreciated, overworked and oft-ignored mother would kill for. Onstage and on-record, when Fallon parts his mighty beard to open his mouth, the voice that emerges is so arresting, it puts your tits in a vice and your ass on lockdown before you have a chance to pull your finger out of your nose. His passion is so great, his bark so unwavering, he’s comparable to a Baptist minister on the day of reckoning.

But there’s a big difference between Fallon and a preacher. More than half the time Fallon’s at the mic, it’s damn near impossible to comprehend what he’s going on about. In the past, he’s spouted incredibly profound lyrics about the state of humanity in one breath and followed them up with mentions of kittens, bake sales and robots.

Alternative Press Talks to Poison The Well!

POISON THE WELL have been wowing post-hardcore audiences since the release of their first album, 1999's The Opposite Of December. Having spent the better part of the past decade touring the world and building a rampant fanbase for their visceral metalcore, PTW just released what they believe to be their most honest and mature full-length, The Tropic Rot, a melodic, aggressive and personal look into the band members' lives.

Cave In Announce "Planets of Old" Out July 28th on Hydra Head!

CAVE IN, the insurmountable Hydra Head all-star traveling team has... yep, you guessed it... officially un-disbanded! Unless you're the type to follow a band's wikipedia page closely enough to notice an update the moment it occurs, this news is of the breaking variety... and what's more, Hydra Head has got 4 brand new CAVE IN tracks for those of you, who after four years of radio silence, still wear your now rusted-over Jupiter pins with pride...

The entire 4 song E.P, "Planets of Old," will be made available only as a limited 12," (well... for now anyway) on July 28th. BAD NEWS: this one-hundo-eighty gram specimen is guaranteed to enter the endangered rankings upon inception... GOOD NEWS: the band will have many a twelve inch on their persons at their upcoming performance in Allston, MA (details below)... So you know what they say (or maybe we just overheard some asshole kid who eventually became an intern say this in San Diego) "One for me, one for ebay." I think he thought it rhymed...

* "Retina Sees Rewind," one of four new tracks from the band, has been made available as a digital single TODAY via iTunes, click here to download!

Absolutepunk Talks To Poison The Well!

Poison The Well - 07.02.09

There are several reasons why Poison The Well deserves respect. The first being that they're likely more fierce than you, but that's no matter. We're fluff balls too. The real reason they deserve respect, and get it too, is for snippets like this quote: "Fuck money, fuck fame, fuck trends and go into it with aspirations of creating music and art with meaning and integrity." Or maybe this one too: "This band has always done whatever it wants, and it's going to continue like that."

The youngest addition to the Sargent House roster, Native was born in the Summer of 2007 in the fields of Northest Indiana. Since then, they've managed to self-release an acclaimed EP, 2008's We Delete; Erase (eventually re-released in the UK on Big Scary Monsters and Sargent House in the States), have toured non-stop building an admiral following in a short amount of time through their unforgettable live shows and well executed musicianship, and have also already landed themselves spotlights in high profile publications such as NME, Alternative Press, Surfing Magazine and countless others.

In April 2009, Native began recording their debut full-length, "Wrestling Moves," with producer Chris Common (Pelican, Mammifer, These Arms Are Snakes) at Red Room Studios in Seattle, WA. The album will see the light of day this Fall and has already drawn comparisons to 90's post-hardcore acts The Van Pelt, Braid, At The Drive In, and more.

G R E Y M A C H I N E Announce Debut Album!

Announce Debut Album, "Disconnected," out August 4th on Hydra Head!

GREYMACHINE is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most realized collaborative effort between Justin Broadrick (Jesu, Godflesh, Napalm Death, Final, Techno Animal, Head of David, God, Curse of the Golden Vampire etc..), Dave Cochrane (Head Of David, God, Ice), Diarmuid Dalton (Jesu, Godflesh) and Aaron Turner (ISIS, House of Low Culture, Mamiffer, Jodis, Old Man Gloom, Lotus Eaters, Drawing Voices, The Hollomen, Union Suit etc..) ever! If you’re a fan of Godflesh, or have even a fleeting interest in the band, this bud's for you; if you subscribe to The Aural & Visual Art of Aaron Turner this shit's a pool party.

Disconnected, the album in question, is at once jarring and ethereal.... which is, as you may already know, the kind of combination that results in entire city blocks bobbin' their heads to dis... In summation, GREYMACHINE sounds like a serious case of cyberbullying through the mind of an extremely autistic child living in an ever-shifting hadean landscape thronged with mindless militants, dilapidated cityscapes and ephemeral phantoms... so to summarize the summation, Disconnected is haunting and modern sounding... In a good way.

Disconnected Track Listing
1. Wolf At the Door
2. Vultures Descend
3. When Attention Just Ain't Enough
4. Wasted
5. We Are All Fucking Liars
6. Just Breathing
7. Sweatshop

The Bouncing Souls Celebrate 20 Year Anniversary!

Stream New Song, "Ghosts On The Boardwalk," * Announce New York and Philadelphia Performances w/ Lifetime and 7 Seconds * Two-Week Stint on Vans Warped Tour * + Canadian Tour w/ Youth Brigade and Off With Their Heads!

2009 has been an extremely busy year so far for New Jersey punk legends, The Bouncing Souls, as they continue to celebrate their 20 year anniversary!

Starting in January, The Bouncing Souls, and their label, Chunksaah Records, announced they'd release a brand new song to their fans on the first of every month (seven new tracks to date as of this week), premiered an amazing new video for March's new song, "Airpoirt Security," performed at this year's SXSW Music Marathon, toured the States with good friends Dillinger 4, The Loved Ones, Black President, The AKAs and more, showed homage to Record Store Day with an in-store acoustic performance at Generation Records in New York City, flew to play Alaska for the first time where Mount Redoubt's first eruption in 20 years (coincidence?) left the band temporarily stranded, toured South America for the first time ever, and are currently finishing up a European tour.

Now, taking us into the second half of 2009, The Bouncing Souls are poised to take part in even more unforgettable festivities, as they prepare for a series of celebratory shows coming to the New York and Philadelphia area w/ special guests Lifetime, 7 Seconds, and more this August, a two-week stint on the Vans Warped Tour, another late Summer European tour, and a recently announced Fall tour of Canada w/ Youth Brigade and Off With Their Heads, all in conjunction with their current series of new releases (available at their label's website, Chunksaah.com, and streaming on the band's Myspace and Facebook pages).

Starting today, you can stream the band's new song for the month of July, entitled, "Ghosts On The Boardwalk." Says Souls bassist Bryan Kienlen of the new song, "Once again the Jersey Shore has invaded the lyrics of a Souls song. Really, it's a song about breaking out of the negative clouds that tend to gather around our heads. Sometimes just looking at your immediate surroundings, but from a different perspective, can change everything. In our case, it was the basic elements that make up our little corner of the world, where the city meets the sea. We love the Jersey shore. Have we mentioned that lately? Stream "Ghosts On The Boardwalk" here!

Watch the video for "Airport Security" here!

For the past 20 years, The Bouncing Souls have been considered by many to be one of the leading and greatest bands in the post-Ramones / Misfits era of punk rock. Making a name for themselves with amazing albums such as The Good The Bad and The Argyle, Maniacal Laughter, Hopeless Romantic, How I Spent My Summer Vacation, Anchors Aweigh, and The Gold Record, and high profile tours with the likes of Alkaline Trio, Green Day, Strike Anywhere, Dropkick Murphy's, Against Me, My Chemical Romance, Hot Water Music, Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, NOFX, Rancid, Youth Brigade, and many more, The Bouncing Souls are one of the most exciting and celebrated bands in the history of punk rock music.

* The Bouncing Souls will take part in four headlining performances taking place from August 20th - August 23rd at New York's Webster Hall, and Philadelphia's Trocadero Theater. Joining the band will be long-time friends Lifetime, 7 Seconds, None More Black and Avail frontman Tim Barry (check out the band's complete tour itinerary below).

BrooklynVegan Talks New Keelhaul Album!

Keelhaul - new MP3, a NYC show w/ Minsk & STATS (aka the BBG editon of Show No Mercy in August), other dates

Due via Hydra Head on August 18th, Triumphant Return (is what I am calling it) marks their fourth LP in their ten years as a band, and their first LP since 2003's Subject To Change Without Notice.

* Keelhaul perform @ Brooklyn's Public Assembly on August 2nd w/ Minsk and STATS @
