Torche and Harvey Milk are the twin totems of sludge-pop, two bands who’ve ushered Melvins-style bludgeon into exciting new arenas of woofer wreckage. Torche use doom-metal textures to make Beach Boys harmonic pop—a joyous, major-key, heavens-gazing bombast that takes on a religious quality when blasted out into a writhing sea of the faithful.
