PROFESSOR MURDER Announces New Free EP on RCRD LBL!
Announces New Free EP "Professor Murder On A Desert Island" on RCRD LBL * Debut MP3 Released Today!
"(Professor Murder's) sound is ladled from the thick soup of post-punk/neo-new-wave bands and dub-inflected indie rockers who've traded their guitars for synthesizers. The result sounds like the aural equivalent of a smile spreading across a face." - NPR
"Crisp, ass-shaking songs that have enough dance-dub fuel to keep the party going well after hours." - Spin Magazine
"New York quartet Professor Murder make post-punk dance-funk 'n' dub piled with synths, chanty vocals, scattershot Liars percussion and more cowbells than your average dairy farm." - Stereogum
Brooklyn post-dub freak-out punks Professor Murder have just announced the release of a brand new song, “Flex-It Formula,” an exclusive free MP3 for the new online record label RCRD LBL.
“Flex-It Formula” is the debut single from the band's new, completely free, EP Professor Murder on a Desert Island, the four-piece’s first release for the online-only RCRD LBL imprint. Produced by the Brothers (!!!, Telepathe, Free Blood), "Flex-It Formula" is available for free and legal download only at RCRD LBL.com.
Over the upcoming weeks, more free tracks from the EP will be unveiled, as well as other cool bits including podcast interviews with the band and more surprises tba. Professor Murder’s last release, the Professor Murder Rides the Subway EP (Kanine), was a critically acclaimed dub-punk masterpiece, and the highly anticipated Professor Murder on a Desert Island will prove to be just as hot.

TEAM ROBESPIERRE Announce New Album Details * Dates w/ Yeasayer and More!
Announce Details of Debut Full Length "Everything's Perfect" out January 22nd on Impose Records * Upcoming Shows w/ Yeasayer, Gil Mantera’s Party Dream, and more!
"Brooklyn's Team Robespierre rock the super fun synth-punk, with an emphasis on the punk. Their raw, electric sound reminds me of (broken-up) bands like Q and Not U, El Guapo, and Fugazi (if Fugazi had keyboard players, that is). These five guys are the perfect band to ask to play when you want to turn your broken-down loft or vacant parking lot into an instant party space." - Oh My Rockness
"Team Robespierre are a young band I love." - Brooklyn Vegan
It’s had two hypothetical release dates and three different titles since summer, but you can all rejoice in the fact the Team has finally decided on artwork and a title: Everything’s Perfect, and more importantly, a hard street date of January 22, 2008.
With production by Colin Marston (Orthrelm, Ghengis Tron, Stay Fucked) and artwork by Kayrock and Wolfy at Kayrock Screen Printing (Ex Models, Oneida, Liars, Matt Pond), the release date will be accompanied by an East Coast tour as well as other goodies (compilation appearances and a video by Dan Deacon’s “Big Big” video producer Allen Cordell).
This one’s all about the Team.

Daytrotter reviews The Black Swans' "Change!"
huge thanks to Sean Moeller!
Bookery: The Black Swans Enter The World Of Dr. Silverfoot Or Vice Versa
Words by Sean Moeller // Illustration by Brendan Kiefer
Always in the outback of Randy Newman’s throat is the weird, scruff of inflection that turns his voice into some sort of lovable caricature, a profitable one that actually leant buckets of legitimacy to his keen observations of the oftentimes hapless characters he wrote about. Those short people were better off with that oddly formed scruff – a weird Mafioso sort of accent. The Black Swans lead singer Jerry DeCiccia shades his words on new record Change! with a similar sort of drawl (another word could be better, maybe, but there’s an unmistakable drawl within it) and his songs of stark beauty wander like auburn and pink skyscapes – the ideal backdrops for hot air balloons to be pasted against should the hobby ever become more of a popular one in the winter months. The troubles that he chronicles shake like a violin string and feather through the air as a fading jet stream might, distorting itself into a chubbier version of how it looked when it was first formed until it just becomes a white tunnel. You hate it when someone beats you to it, but there’s a striking Leonard Cohen flair to the way DeCiccia sings and proceeds, but there’s more Americana the way Shearwater does it in the music that backs it all up. It’s a lush shaking that were it put into scent would smell smoky and cinnamon spicy. DeCiccia here puts on his other cap – one of his many day jobs to pay the never-ending bills. He is his alter ego Dr. Silverfoot, a balloon sculpter. For the role, DeCiccia wears his “everyday 18th century sideburns,” a tuxedo, top hat, silver vest and silver ascot and goes about making swords and dragon hats and another whole multitude of creatures and contortions. He reminds in this self-penned reading that, “When bumblebees land on the tip of a pin, well, then they’re the ones who get stung” as well as teaching the lesson that it’s okay to love things (such as balloon animals) that someday aren’t going to be there – either through popping accidents or deaths of other kinds. Come for the life lessons and stay for the sound effects provided by he and his Black Swans bandmates.

FUCKED UP Announce Holiday Charity 7"
Announce Holiday Charity Single featuring Very Special Guests!
As reported from the band themselves. This is not a joke:
In honor of the season, Fucked Up has recorded a special festive single.
The a-side features a brand new holiday themed song by Fucked Up. Clocking in at four minutes, this ripper is about the birth of our lord and savior: David Eliade and serves as a taste of what is to come on Fucked Up's forthcoming LP, "The Chemistry Of Common Life," that will see the light of day next year.
The b-side of the record boasts a very special Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa song which has Fucked Up collaborating with:
James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem)
Cole (Black Lips)
Davey Havok (AFI)
Kevin Peterson (What's Your Rupture?)
Faris Rotter (The Horrors)
Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring)
Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan)
Dave One (Chromeo)
Jacob Thiele (The Faint)
Morag and Ursula
Jay Reatard
Dan Romano (Attack In Black)
Trevor Keith (Face To Face)
Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid)
Jerry A. (Poison Idea)
Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
Scott Vogel (Terror)
and Nelly Furtado.
This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do. The recording time for this record was generously donated by Chris Hegge of Audiolab Studios Toronto (402 Salem Avenue North. 416-516-5542).
The record comes gift wrapped in special Fucked Up wrapping paper, graciously donated by Simone (sometime member of Fucked Up) of Punchclock (http://punchclock.org/) and it will be limited (there is no way we are going to wrap too many of these).
All proceeds from the sale of this record will go directly to George Herman House: a transitional housing and life skills program that supports women who are living with mental health issues in Toronto (http://www.georgehermanhouse.ca/).
To celebrate the release of this record and everything wrong/ right about this time of year Fucked Up will be hosting a very special event at Sonic Boom Music (512 Bloor St. West) on December 15. With the help of the very talented Tim Oakley, Fucked Up will be playing a live set in Santa's Workshop and the ol' jolly fat elf himself will take over the vocal duties for Fucked Up at this event. There will be surprise guests and a chance to take your picture with Santa and best of all it is all for free (of course you can bring a donation for George Herman House)!!! All we are asking is that you please bring some non-perishable food items (and please don't bring in something stupid like cream corn or something that has been sitting in the cupboard for years) for the food bank (we will have a box for donations).
So come down with some food, take a photo with Santa, watch Fucked Up and buy a 7". It is all for a good cause.
For the people that can't make it down to the show: have no fear. The 7" will be available (while quantities last) for mail order. More info will be posted on the Fucked Up blog (www.lookingforgold.blogspot.com) or on the What's Your Rupture? site (http://www.whatsyourrupture.com/)

THE RED DEATH
Godmakers
(January 22nd, 2008)
"The Red Death have unleashed an utterly relentless, surgically precise neck-snapper of an album. If this doesn't quicken your pulse, check your vitals - you may be dead" – Metal Hammer. The Red Death is bracing for their sophomore release Godmakers (January 22nd) following much buzz among critics in 2007. With the dual riff goblin spawned by guitarists Aaron Conti and Mark Kelley placed alongside the fire-breathing voice of singer Paul Hamblin, The Red Death have created what is quite possibly the most powerful beast sired from a brutal tryst of speed metal and serrated hardcore.

BAUMER Announces New Album "Were It Not For You" Ou March 4th on Eyeball!
Announces New Album "Were It Not For You" out March 4th on Eyeball Records!
"Effortlessly romantic and sexy" - Alternative Press
"A musical purgatory between New Order and Nine Inch Nails" - Guitar Player
If someone asked you to describe what truly represents today’s modern rock movement, what would you say? If you had to pick one album that encompasses all that makes music so personally exciting and inspirational, which would you pick?
In today’s current musical landscape, many bands attempt to create their take on a straight-ahead, definitive rock album, but few bands, if any, pull this off quite like Columbia, South Carolina’s BAUMER.
Formed in 2004, the four members of BAUMER, and their home-base Eyeball Records, could quite possibly be preparing the release of what may go down as one of the most powerful and truly epic albums of our generation. Drawing influences from bands like New Order, Nine Inch Nails, or The Cars, BAUMER take the sound of electronic power rock to the next level, representing, much like the aforementioned bands, a future of music we have not yet seen. Most closely and often compared to today’s contemporaries Muse or The Faint, BAUMER creates an album so amazingly slick and balls-to-the-wall, accompanied by their dizzying array of time signatures, it is almost impossible to deny the sheer brilliance of the band’s latest “Were It Not For You.”
Much like the band’s 2005 album, “Come On, Feel It,” “Were It Not For You” is the soundtrack to a late night dance party that ends in a passionate love affair with the girl across the room. Standout ballads like “In Your Stead,” will blow your speakers and your mind, and will unquestionably remain stuck in your brain for the rest of your life, “Hard Drug,” which sounds like what The Smiths would produce if they wanted to rock out, is a swirling and spiraling, gorgeous track that will likely end up on many best songs of ’08 lists, “On Our Way,” which should be the soundtrack to all those kick-ass days when you feel at the top of your game, and “Lucky Strike,” a monstrous rock track that proclaims “Love, you say it calms your nerves, love, stills your hand as it burns, you say it’s cool and keeps you thin, this one’s done, light one up again” will give any listener the chills and is oozing with sexual innuendos.
Bottom Line: BAUMER rocks with an unbridled ferocity that sounds like the band must have twenty members exuding this monstrous and unmatched supremacy. Introducing the future of music, and your new favorite band.
Players:
Nate Boykin (vocals, keyboards)
Kenny McWilliams (guitar, programming)

Jambase reviews The Black Swans' "Change!"
big thanks to Dennis Cook and the entire Jambase staff:
By: Dennis Cook
This arrives just in time for the autumnal shift, the perfect companion for flat, gray skies and bare branches, a sympathetic timbre for nature's annual undressing. The Black Swans' second long-player, Change! (La Societe Expeditionnaire), has the narcoleptic drift of late period Chet Baker and the dark river flow of the best Cowboy Junkies. Singer-songwriter-guitarist Jerry DeCicca croons like a fresh gash to the heart, each syllable pushed forth with painful awareness and wrapped in the murky smokiness of the Tindersticks' Stuart Staples. The sometimes funereal mood is leavened by honestly hopeful lyrical pockets and the dexterous, melancholy string sweep of violinist Noel Sayre. "Coats" is simply a winter marvel, a literal and metaphorical bundle of warmth laying in wait for those who need the embrace. Anyone who digs the Willard Grant Conspiracy, Handsome Family or American Music Club is in for a treat from these poet-musicians who skip on life's jagged rocks so we too may make the same leaps.

The Philadelphia Weekly talks new Coyote record "Outsides!"
huge thanks to Doug Wallen and the entire Philadelphia Weekly staff:
Opening Riff
Going Inside Outsides
by Doug Wallen
Coyote’s new Outsides picks up right where its precursor, 2004’s Insides EP, left off. There are versatile keys high in the mix, urgent vocals down low, raw garage riffs grappling with a foreboding bass presence and lots of sudden shifts in drumming. But while the Coyote we hear on Outsides may be unchanged, the band most certainly is different.
Last summer Coyote lost bassist Trevor Butler in a fatal car accident.
The record wrapped before the accident and was given out to those attending the high-profile benefit show for Butler’s family in September. Now it’s time for a proper release, heralded by Coyote’s decision to play on after such a devastating loss. Outsides is the final document of Butler’s time in the band.
Insides was released by the L.A.-based Birdman imprint. Outsides, fittingly, found a home with local label Hot Dog City Records. Swampy and overcast, it has a rare pull over the listener, partly due to unpredictable songs and a fiery delivery.
Ryan Hamilton’s voice isn’t always clear, but when it does emerge through the fog, it’s tough to ignore. The organ, prominent throughout Outsides, goes from eerie churchlike passages to groggy psych atmosphere to saloon-style tickling.
“Tea Kettle” is the slow, orderly answer to the disheveled opener “White Fox,” although it’s almost creepier in its doomy shuffle. “Headlights” makes hypnotic a simple organ line, “Air Bourne” lets the guitar take over and “Parlor” sees the two competing with a ragged Hamilton for space. “Gala of Spades” is the album’s prettiest, with a coy narrative and old-timey feel that makes it jump off the record.
Thoughts will be with Butler as Coyote play to their home audience, but these songs are weird and cool and riling enough to deserve repeated listens.
Coyote perform Fri., Nov. 23, 9pm. $8. With Mountain High + FNU Ronnies. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave. 215.739.9684. www.johnnybrendas.com

TUSK and HUGUENOTS Release New Albums on Hydra Head Today!
Release New Albums from TUSK and THE HUGUENOTS Today!
TUSK
"The Resisting Dreamer"
28 months after the start of initial tracking, 10 months since anyone gave a shit, Tusk is ready to share their magnum opus, their potential swan song, "The Resisting Dreamer", with the world via the Tortuga Recording Company (a sub-division of the Los Angeles based Hydra Head Records).
Two and a half years in the making, "The Resisting Dreamer" is a single 37 minute song divided into four tracks across two sides of vinyl or one side of shiny plastic (depending on your purchasing preference). Original vocalist Jody Minnoch was not available to contribute, but the record benefits from the disparate sounds and intensely talented contributions of Evan Patterson of Young Widows and Toby Driver of Kayo Dot. The two vocalists contributed their own lyrics in tandem and together weave a tale of regret, resentment, and (classic Tusk lyrical theme) descent in madness as the inner worlds of despair and guilt ravage the soul of the album's protagonist, who caves into their nightmarish inner world to ultimately taste "The Lewdness and Frenzy of Surrender."
Recorded and mixed by Tusk alumn Greg Norman at Electrical Audio studios (during Pelican's "Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" sessions from midnight to five am) and Studio Greg Studios II, the album has a sound and style unlike anything they have attempted in the past. Occasionally groove-laden, occasionally spastic, and often unnerving, "The Resisting Dreamer" is the sound of a band that has absolutely no interest in proving anything to anyone.

THE HUGUENOTS
"Discography"
Much like the members of the Protestant Reformed Church of France from which they took their name, The Huguenots spent the mid-to-late 90s reading the works of John Calvin, attempting to abduct the king, and being impaled on hooks outside the Château d’Amboise. When they weren’t doing all that “revolutionary” French shit, The Huguenots were a band truly ahead of their time, pumping out the kind of slash n’ burn noise terror that prefigured the current crop of “avant-punk” poster-children (we’d name names, but what’d be the point?) while razing various New England-area basements, living rooms and VFW halls before hitting their jagged stride on an HH-sponsored split ten-inch with SevenPercentSolution.
Up until (and during) their untimely demise, they subsisted almost entirely on a diet
of rabbit meat and foie gras and included amongst their number Messieurs Kurt Ballou
(Converge), Aaron Stuart (Piebald), Dan Colby (The Explosion and subsequently and now
formerly of hot mods/all-time worst-selling HH band The Never Never) and Matt Oates
(also subsequently and now formerly of The Never Never and currently of Boston speed
grunge aficionados Angels of Meth). Included here is The Huguenots’ entire discography (hence the title, duh), including the aforementioned split, along with a solemn promise that they are not actually (nor have they ever been) French.
We know you’re asking yourself who the damn Huguenots are. Believe us: There’s a reason Hydra Head backed them with a split 10” in our modest early days (yes, they weren’t always the influential empire they are now). The Huguenots pioneered a style of avant punk that today has spread like the plague.
The Huguenots are defunct. So “no”: They won’t get back together to tour and cash in on this long overdue discography.
Some members of The Huguenots went on to measurable success in their other bands
(Piebald, The Explosion, Converge and even The Never Never!). Plenty of people want to know what those cats were up to in their early days. As far as we’re concerned, they were up to making killer music at a time when the underground was alive with thousands of visionary bands. Remember Angel Hair, Clicatat Ikatowi, Twelve Hour Turn, Shotmaker, Gravity Records, Swing Kids? Likely not. Well the same fate of obscurity will not affect The Huguenots!
Tracklisting for Huguenots Discography:
1. Postscript (1:37)

Pastepunk reviews Pet Genius' self-titled debut!
much thanks to Jason Bergman and the Pastepunk staff!
PET GENIUS "PET GENIUS" (Hydra Head Records)
Review by Jason Bergman
It seems like Stephen Brodsky is just never going to go away. Whether it was cranking out killer riffs with CAVE IN or his other recently disbanded project THE OCTAVE MUSEUM, Brodsky has been putting others to shame for years with his constant musical output. Hell, I didn’t even know the guy had a new project, PET GENIUS, until the album showed up in my P.O. Box just a couple of weeks ago. Brodsky keeps the self-reinvention coming with his latest project, which is a fusion of pop-rock, stoner-inspired riffs, THE BEATLES, and totally odd lyrics. Yeah…THE BEATLES (listen to track two, “The Visiting Dynamiter” and just try to argue against it).
“Doomsday” kicks off the album with a crunchy, bombastic guitar part that starts and stops, while Brodsky sings along in the occasional falsetto range. Abstract lyrics like, “Chocolate milk day, my retainer went straight into the trash” and “Flies ignore their wings,” are present throughout the album, but the music is the main focus here. The melodic elements of later CAVE IN peak through on some of the tracks, like “Cosmic Erosion”, and even though I have no idea what he means, I find myself resonating with Brodsky as he sincerely repeats, “Our bodies will implode” over and over again. It sounds like Stephen Brodsky and crew holed up in his garage with their favorite albums for a solid week of riffing and creating heavy, yet self-aware tunes that don’t get lost in their own attempt to be too psychedelic or “out there.” Whether it’s full out balls-to-the-wall rocking, restrained, or a mix of the two (like “Float My Boat”) PET GENIUS demonstrates that Brodsky can take as many stylistic elements as he damn well pleases and make something that will have you nodding along for reasons even you are not sure of…and that’s certainly not a bad thing at all.

You hold in your hands the new and very special album from Philadelphia's COYOTE. Comprised of members featuring the late Trevor Butler (Bottom of the Hudson), Russell Higbee (Man Man, Lewis & Clarke), Jeff Mooridian (Vaz), and Ryan Hamilton, this all-star lineup demonstrates the triumph of a circle of friends soldiering on after one of the more personally catastrophic events in their lives.
Still active after the loss of a band-mate, the sound of COYOTE has become that of subtle, yet raging power. Some might recall a bit of Three Mile Pilot or Black Heart Procession, but nevermind those comparisons. The rhythm section plows right through any chance of being a normal indie band. The keys and guitar meander and toss melodies back and forth amongst one another, while the drums and bass powerfully crush beat after beat. Ryan Hamilton's vocals are not to be forgotten, chanting and screeching in perfect pitch, while remaining in the background 'til the time is right to wallop you w/ a prancing howl.
COYOTE brings elements of sound from each member's aforementioned band to create a spiraling hum that seems most at home in a Stanley Kubrick film or an episode of The Twilight Zone (listen to the track Tea Kettle for a better idea).
To listen to COYOTE is to venture into the dark nether-regions of our universe and psyche, and "Outsides," is a celebration and homage to the band's accomplishments, past, present, and future.
